Discrete Figures is an experimental performance in collaboration with Mikiko, Elevenplay, Daito Manabe, and Kyle McDonald that was presented worldwide, including festival performances in Montréal, San Francisco, New York, Tokyo, Leige, Sapporo, Barcelona, and Eindhoven. The work merges the performing arts with mathematics, exploring the relationship between the human body and computer generated movement (simulated bodies) born from mathematical analysis.
Incorporating drones, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, the work challenges conventional notions of emotional expression through movement and aims to illicit new methodologies and techniques in dance. Virtual dancers, generated using markerless motion capture for pose estimation and photogrammetry for visual content generation, merge physical and digital realities in realtime.
